European Championship (round 1) 2009
4/25/2009

Alexz Wigg (JLI Top Trial team Beta) began his European Championship today in the Northern Portuguese town of Chaves 5 kms from the Spanish border. Despite the arrival of a new TTT Beta wiggy didn't perform to his best today, in fact he was well off the pace.

Starting off well enough with two cleans then on 3 a clean ride up the difficult start was spoilt by rushing the relatively straight forward end and two marks quickly followed. Section 4 then meant another slack two and five in five set the tone for the day. Another 11 added in 11,12 and 13 meant a lowly lap score of 22. Despite halving his score to 11 for the second lap a total of 33 gave him tenth position a far from perfect start to the European Championship.

Hopefully tomorrow will bring a better result and a good finish to put with his double win from the recent first round in Ireland.

JuniorWTC Round 3 Portugal
4/26/2009

After the european championship Sunday arrived with a much better day weatherwise and Alexz Wigg (JLI Top Trial Team Beta) was in good shape having made a few changes to the bike overnight. Practice proved the bike to be spot on and with a positive attitude Wiggy was out last man away.

Sections one and two proved no problem but three was much harder today due to the damp ground conditions and a good clean here was a fair effort. Sadly a 5 in section four followed by two dabs in 5 and 6 meant he had fallen behind his rivals. A fighting 3 on the very difficult 12 meant a lap score of 10 left him trailing in third with gomez on 6 and Gratterola on 8. Despite this and because the sections were riding harder than the Saturday Alexz was still determined to give it his best.

A clean on four really got him fired up and even a dab on his bogey section 5 did nothing to stop the roll but two in 11 marked as a three really meant he had to do something special. This would have to be the difficult section twelve, already fived by his rivals Alexz said" I have to go for a clean its my only chance" which is what he did to great applause. A dab in 13 was a shame and at the finish proved very costly, as despite posting the best lap of the day only 5 marks lost it was not enough to claw back a below par first lap.

" I am really disappointed, but after yesterday its perhaps not such a bad result. I feel like I have found some form but have been slack in places" said Alexz. Wiggy is determined to go away now and put in even more effort to ensure a good result in the next WTC event in CARLISLE in may!!!! Be there and be sure to give the British Lads a big cheer.

This leaves Alexz still leading the Junior world championship but Gomez has closed the gap to only three points. But next week there is the small matter of the SSDT.

Junior WTC Italy
6/21/2009

The Italian Round of the Junior WTC was held over the same course as the previous days UEM championship, in Barzio Northern Italy. Weather was fine and set for the day.
Alexz Wigg (JLI TTT beta Evo) was motivated by a below par performance theday before, and started the trial perfectly, clean till section 5. Despite getting on top of the difficult step he slipped to the side and was caught by his minder, Harold "H" Crawford. Despite this, a first lap which included only five more dabs but left him trailing in third place due in no small part to some “partisan” observing. Gomez was only two in front, and on lap two Alexz arrived at the tricky section 5 almost needing a clean, which he managed this time with no trouble. This very much set the tone for the lap. Despite the difficult sections, and they all were Wiggy stayed clean till 10 when despite keeping his feet on the pegs the observer held up a one card. Some “discussion” occurred, but the observer stuck to his decision and one went on the card.

This was to be the only mark lost on the lap, and cleaning 12 was a real achievement with this slippery section at its worst. At the end despite his fantastic single mark lap, he was pipped for the win by home rider Gratterola, just two marks in front, and third place was decided on most cleans, teammate Jack Challoner losing out to Gomez both on 24.

This result leaves Alexz requiring 7 more points to wrap up the Junior world Trials Championship next week in Andorra. Can’t wait!

Well where have we been!

Alexz has had a very busy winter , mainly training and getting ready for the big outdoor season of World Championship events.
The biggest thing recently has been his participation in the indoor series as a permanent rider. OK he hasn't set the world alight but this was a big step up for him and he produced some good performances and has definately learned alot.

2010 WTC Round 1 Spain
4/24/2010

With several rule changes Alexz was at a disadvantage riding at the back of the field but this was nothing compared to the effort to actually get to the event.
With the well known Volcano disrupting air travel team Wigg made the 22 hour 1350 mile trip overnight and day just to get to the event in time.

Despite the sections being very hard and long Alexz tried hard all day and ended up one from last just in front of wtc regular Michael Brown. Wiggy was glad the event was over but with Harold Crawford his regular minder making the trip by car this week everyone on the team is hoping for a better result.

more news as we get it.
