Scottish Six Days
05/05/2008

Alexz Wigg (Sandiford Future Trial 300cc Montesa) had a disappointing week in Scotland by his standards but for a second attempt managed a sound result really, rounding out the week in 11th position.

On Monday things did not start well for wiggy and a slack five on his early day for a total of 11, meant he actually started Tuesday in 28th place! Wednesday again brought an improvement (17th) so things were moving in the right direction, however losing some sections on Thursday (now 13th) and then having a nasty crash necessitating a hospital visit, did nothing to get him into the top ten. He did only drop 3 marks each on these two days, his best rides of the week.
On the Friday “a good ride turned average from too many slack marks” according to Alexz, despite no fives and finishing only one mark behind team mate Dabill.

Saturday again Wiggy felt he was below form without making excuses (he was in some discomfort from the injuries) but a clean up the pipeline sections was a good achievement, and as his consistency began to show the event ended. “Perhaps with another 6 days he could get top 5” remarked someone nearby!

Vowing to return in 2009 and put in a better performance Wiggy now goes home to recover from the weeks efforts and prepare for the Mitchell BTC and the following days flight to Japan for the next WTC round in Japan, at the end of May.

WTC Sequatchie USA Day 1
26/04/2008

The scores we have in are that Alexz has finished in fifth place with 5 marks covering the second to fifth placings. It looks like the day has not made any real difference to the championship standings more news if we get it.

St Davids 2008 Section 4
British Championship Rnd 2
20/04/2008

Alexz Wigg (Sandiford Future Trial Montesa) had a steady ride to record a solid fourth place at the second round of the full British Championship held near  to Neath, South Wales.

An excellent start to lap one, Alexz cleaned sections one and two which was right on the button as many others had dropped marks by this time. A 3 on the third was hard work but he continued to ride well as good as anyone on 9, holding third at the end of the lap, 3 behind Jarvis and 5 behind Browny.
A better second lap was not nearly as good as the top two and by the end he was down in fourth with Sean Morris posting a good 2nd lap.
Although dropping down a few more marks he was in a clear 4th place at the finish having had some terrific rides including a clean of the difficult number 3.

Said Alexz " that was a bit better than last week (refering to his riding) I really enjoyed that!"

Said Harry " he was riding well, so he was, the others just have a bit more experience and Alexz just needs a bit more consistency".

Both Harry and Alexz depart for Bergamo Team HQ early Monday for a connecting flight to America on Tuesday for the World Round in Tennesee next week.

Round 2 Junior WTC, Bangor NI
13/04/2008
Alexz Wigg (Future Trial 300 Sandiford Montesa) put the disappointment of missing the podium on Saturday by putting in another terrific Junior result in Round 2 of the junior WTC held today in Bangor NI.

Lap one started well although a dab on the first was not exactly perfect, but Alexz really got to grips with the difficult sections on the seafront, which was even colder and windier than the Saturday if possible. Only two dabs up to four meant he already had the advantage over his rivals, and a clean on 5 (only two riders did this) set him up nicely for the sections in the glen. Losing two on the tricky nine and only one on the very difficult fourteen gave him a total of 6 for the lap before the indoor stadium section at the start area. Clean to the final rock Wiggy over balanced to loose his first five of the day.

This gave him a brilliant lap score of only 11 lost; second place was Sam Haslam on 22, which gave Alexz a good breathing space for the second lap. Although most riders improved on their second lap, Alexz could not match his first and dropped a few nervous dabs, and a few errors resulted in a best lap total of 16 despite a clean on 15, giving a grand total of 27. This gave a richly deserved win in front of the “home” crowd, second was Sam Haslam on 45 and Gomez third on 56.

Alexz was obviously delighted “ I am really pleased with the result today, and to win with a gap to the other riders is good. It is just the start I had hoped for in the championship better than I thought possible. Thanks to Harry and all the TRW team it is a great start to the year I just hope I can carry on like this. Mega!” Alexz now leads the championship on 40 points from Gomez on 32 and Sam Haslam on 27.

The next event for Alexz is the first British Championship round in Kinlochleven next week, after an extended stay with Harold Crawford practicing in Northern Ireland.

Round 1 junior WTC Ettlebruck Luxembourg
30/03/2008

Alexz Wigg (Future 300cc Montesa) continued the tradition of top British junior riders by topping the results at the first round of the WTC held in the hills near Warken. As almost a deja vue of 2006 in the youth section the worlds best juniors lined up on the tough semi natural course.

Section one was a steep drop off but cleaned by many. 2 was much more of a challenge and an early marker was laid down by Gubian back at full fitness who cleaned in style, matched by Wiggy who was putting all the winter training into practice and looking very steady. Two more cleans on 3 & 4 was spoiled by a failure to get up the very first step of number five, which hadn’t caused many problems to the others.

This fired up Alexz who knew that the sections were demanding and there would be a chance to claw back the marks. The remaining sections followed the same format of technical and long mainly on slippery rocks where inch perfection was necessary.

On the other side of the valley the sections were very tough indeed and Alexz lost a soft one on the first part of this but cleaned the very tough exit. 12 was his second five but 13 was perhaps the toughest section all day, which Alexz got through for 2. 14 was the time control then the indoor section at the start completed the lap for 18 marks lost, 4 in front of Gubian and the chasing pack.

Although dropping the odd mark Alexz corrected many of the mistakes on lap one and managed a terrific clean of 11, a great effort. Soon after Alexz had a severe case of cramp that cost him his only five of the lap on 13, when he was on the last step clean. Again posting the best lap score this time only 11 marks lost giving a total of 29 ten in front of Montesa mounted Gomez of Spain.

Said Alexz “ this is just the start I hoped for and I am really pleased to have won a tough event like this. I feel very confident on the bike and Harry has been an enormous help with getting settled in the team. Dibs has been good too and I think he has helped me get the most out of the bike. I can’t wait for Bangor and hope I can put in another good performance, but there is no doubt this year is going to be hard with so many good riders in the juniors”.

Italian Championship, Second Round
16/03/2008
Alexz Wigg (Future Trial Team) competed in the second round of the Italian championship today Sunday 16th March. After a poor showing in the first round Alexz had a point to prove and this he did in great style by posting the best score on lap one, alongside team mate James Dabill both on 13 marks.

This was just the start Wiggy was after but his second lap went off only near the end when he lost a soft 5 and was docked another by a strict observer, unfortunately dropping him down to fourth place.

The last lap was his best, just 9 marks but this was not good enough for a podium, but certainly a much better all round effort than 2 weeks ago.

He said “ I was making simple mistakes which cost me a few marks, but the trial was very good and I felt confident on the bike, thanks to all the training and practising we’ve been doing. OK dibs had some bad luck but to get that close was good, and I felt my last lap was really steady ”.

Alexz returns to the UK next week for a short break then back to Italy for final preparations before his next event the first round of the WTC in Luxembourg.
